Error: “There Is No IAM Role Attached To This Instance” when Installing/Upgrading a ZCA in AWS

Summary

An administrator upon attempting an AWS ZCA upgrade from 7.0 to 7.5 or installing an AWS ZCA at 7.5 or higher, receives an error regarding an IAM Role.

Root Cause

There is no IAM Role attached to the ZCA.

Symptoms

When attempting to upgrade or install a ZCA in AWS running 7.5 or higher, the following error is presented:

Solution

To resolve this issue, follow the steps below:

  1. Login to the AWS Portal.

  2. Open the EC2 Dashboard.

  3. Right click on the ZCA EC2 instance.

  4. Select Instance Settings -> Attach/Replace IAM Role.

  5. Follow the wizard to attach the necessary IAM Role.

  6. If no IAM Roles exist, follow the steps to create an IAM Role with the necessary permissions as outlined in section "Setting EC2 Instance Permissions in AWS" of the Zerto Installation Guide for AWS.
