Changing The IP Address Of A ZVM

KB Number:
000001309

Cause:
An administrator may need to change the IP configuration of the Windows VM running the Zerto Virtual Manager software at a particular site.  This article outlines the steps necessary to accomplish this task from a Zerto Virtual Replication perspective.

Solution:

Due to the manner in which Zerto Virtual Managers are paired, changing the IP configuration of a Windows VM running the Zerto Virtual Manager software requires the temporary un-pairing of sites.  As such, the following steps need to be performed in order to preserve replicated data as well as the VPGs configuration:

  1. Export VPG settings by using the "Export Protection Group Settings" option in the ZVM's Zerto Diagnostics utility to create an XML file containing VPG configuration settings.
  2. Delete all VPGs, choosing to "Keep target disks at the peer site".
  3. Unpair the sites via the Zerto GUI.
  4. If the ZVM whose IP address is being changed is not managed by a Zerto Cloud Manager (ZCM), proceed to step 5.  If the ZVM whose IP address is being changed is managed by a Zerto Cloud Manager (ZCM), access the ZCM GUI, navigate to the relevant site, access each Organization, and remove all vCenter Cloud Resources, vCD Cloud Resources, and Customer Sites.  Once removed, remove the relevant site from the Sites list.
  5. Change the IP configuration of the ZVM.
  6. Use the "Reconfigure Zerto Virtual Manager" option in the Zerto Diagnostics Utility to update the vCenter's Zerto plugin with the new IP configuration of the ZVM.
  7. Pair the sites via the ZVR GUI.
  8. Import VPG settings by using the "Import Protection Group Settings" option in the Zerto Diagnostics Utility to import the XML file created in step 1.

Following this procedure, all VPGs will be recreated and will subsequently enter Delta Sync to compare source and target disks for changes.  Once the sync has completed, the VPGs will re-enter the protected state.

Note: If this process involves un-pairing sites with VPGs replicating to vCD, information on re-creation of the VPGs is available in the Recreating VPGs with a vCD Target article.
