Zerto Environment Requirements

  • Hello team,

We are going to migrate around 1100 VMs (source vSphere 6.7 with ESXi 6.0) from one datacenter (target vSphere 6.7 with ESXi 6.7) to another within 10 kms distance. There are 2 source Datacenters (say around 500+ VMs in each DC), will go to 2 new target Datacenters. Connectivity among them will be around 10 Gbps.

Would like to know Zerto environment deployment requirements for source & target. Let me try to explain my queries in question format:

    1. How many ZVMs need to deploy?
    2. Can we deploy multiple versions of ZVMs (if required) in same environment?
    3. What would be the configuration details of ZVMs?
    4. Do we need any ZVM in target as well?
    5. Should we configure VRA in all the ESXi servers of source DCs?
    6. What version of Zerto we should use in the environment as we need to migrate VMs with Physical RDMs connected? (As we came to know the Zerto can migrate physical RDMs as well) Please provide step by step documentation.
    7. Also I need the steps to migrate MS Cluster (with MS SQL) running in VMware environment.
    8. Do we need ESXi credential at any point of time during initial deployment and configuration of Zerto environment? If yes, when we need that? Then we need to take ESXi root credential from client.

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Regards,

    Swapan Sett

    Hello Swapan,

    Contara from Zerto Support.

My recommendation to contact Support and have a conversation with the serial of your questions.  Some of the questions I can answer and some I can’t.

If you are using Zerto just to do a migration, you might want to contact your Zerto Account team to get a Zerto migration license.

How many ZVMs need to deploy?

It depends. Please contact Support and have a conversation with them.

Can we deploy multiple versions of ZVMs (if required) in same environment?
What would be the configuration details of ZVMs?

    One ZVM per vCenter only.

Zerto 8.0 U2 is the latest.

Also, I need the steps to migrate MS Cluster (with MS SQL) running in VMware environment.
