VRA to VRA Encryption

For compliance reasons we are looking at enabling VRA to VRA Encryption which is available in version 8.5u4p1.  We have multiple source sites (ZVM’s) with each having from 1 to many Protected recovery sites.  One of the Protected Recovery sites will not support VRA to VRA Encryption (Policy/Mgmt directed) but would we still need them to have Encryption enabled on their end if we have enabled on the “source site ZVM”?  -reminder that source has 1 to many recovery site connections. Only the 1 recovery site will NOT have enabled, but others will. My assumption is there will not be Encryption to the 1 recovery site that is NOT enabled, but he system as a whole will still function.
