Zerto Virtual Replication provides the unique capability of retaining the block-level changes in protected VMs to enable point in time recovery to increments in seconds. The changed blocks are compressed to maintain storage efficiency with options for configuring separate storage and individually definable SLAs. Each journal acts as a transaction log for the VM changes enabling consistent recovery. This capability enables VMs, files and data to be recovered from any point in time, just seconds before deletion or corruption, without having to accept the data loss of restoring from slow and infrequent backups.
Starting in Zerto Virtual Replication 5.0, journaling retention can now be configured to retain up to 30 days of block-level changes. Data can be recovered from any point in time in the 30-day history removing the need to utilize short-term disk based backups for data protection. Different journal retention policies can be configured per replication destination, enabling use cases such as replication to cheap blob or S3 storage in Azure or AWS.

Utilize Zerto offsite clones or offsite backup technologies to take weekly or monthly copies of VMs to extend protection to any retention period required. Offsite cloning uses scale-out Virtual Replication Appliance technology to create full clones of VMs enabling backup to tape via 3rd party solutions or long term retention on dedicated deduplication devices.
