On its own, Zerto Virtual Replication creates crash-consistent checkpoints. An administrator may want to maintain application-consistent checkpoints, as well. In order to do this, integration with the OS on the VM is required. This can be achieved for Windows as well as CentOS, and all common RedHat and SUSE Linux distributions.
Application-consistent checkpoints can be achieved in any of the following ways:
- Install the Zerto VSS agent on a Windows VM to tie VSS checkpoints into Zerto Virtual Replication
- Use a script to place the application in a quiesced mode (such as Oracle Hot Backup mode) and execute the Zerto PowerShell Cmdlet "Set-Checkpoint", then release the quiesced mode - for further information, refer to the Zerto Virtual Replication Cmdlets documentation
