ZERTO FIELD NOTICE FTN-20190423: INCORRECT DATA RECORDED IN THE RESOURCE REPORT AND CORRESPONDING API

Notice

Date: 4/23/19

Field Technical Notice: FTN-20190423

ZVR Versions Affected: ZVR 6.0 and above

Description:
In certain versions and configurations noted above, there is an issue with incorrect data in the resource report and the corresponding values provided in the API:

Zerto REST API URLValue
[https://zvm_ip:port/ZvmService/ResourcesReport] https://zvm_ip:port/ZvmService/ResourcesReportJournalUsedStorageInGB
[https://zvm_ip:port/v1/reports/resources] https://zvm_ip:port/v1/reports/resourcesRecoveryJournalUsedStorageInGB

This incorrect data is summarized as the following two problems:
  • A rounding error can sometimes cause values to be reported incorrectly. For example, if a journal disk is using 0.03GB the report will incorrectly round the value down to zero.
  • In mixed versions between site pairs, values may be incorrectly recorded as -1.
Due to these errors, the noted values are incorrect in the exported Resource Report spreadsheet and when queried via the Resource Report API.

Background: The rounding error affects ZVR 6.0 update 1 and above; the mixed version problem affects resource reports on version 6.0 sites and above where the peer site is an older version, for example a protected site of 5.5 and a recovery site of 6.0.

Solution: On existing 6.5u2-3 versions, users can alternatively query the Volumes API to obtain data related to Journal storage usage. A hot fix for 6.5u3 patch 1 is available from Zerto Support for users who are on version 6.5u3 and must use the resource report or its API. Updates to ZVR 6.5 and ZVR 7.0 are planned to correct these issues, please check future release notes on updates to these versions.
