Summary

An erroneous alert may be seen in the Zerto GUI for protected Linux VMs that are reported as running Windows 2003. VCenter reports the VM is running this inaccurate OS and should be updated within VCenter to report properly and clear the alert.

Root Cause

The protected VM is running some version of Linux, however, in vCenter the VM is configured as Windows 2003.

Symptoms

When a VPG is protecting Linux VMs, the following alert may be seen:

VPGs {vpg_names} include VMs running Windows 2003 operating system. These VMs drop their domains since guest customization is enabled.

Solution

To resolve, change the protected VM settings via steps below:
  1. In the vSphere VM inventory, right-click on the virtual machine and select "Edit Settings".
  2. When the Virtual Machine Properties dialog appears, click the "VM Options" tab.
  3. Click on "General Options" to expand this section.
  4. Change "Guest OS" to Linux, and "Guest OS Version" to the appropriate distribution and version of Linux being used.
  5. Click OK.
