Removal of vSphere Components and the Effect on Replication

KB Number:

An administrator may want to know what effect removing vSphere components may have on Zerto Virtual Replication.

Affected Versions

All Versions

When an object such as a VM, datastore, network, or host is removed from vCenter, the managed object reference (MoRef) for the object is removed from the vCenter database.  If the object is re-added to vCenter, it is assigned a new MoRef.

Zerto Virtual Replication relies heavily on MoRefs in order to properly target virtual infrastructure components.  If an object is removed from vCenter, and re-added, the ZVM will lose track of the object, and any affected VPGs will either need to be updated, or re-created (depending on what was removed.)
