Moving a Target Host from One Cluster to Another
Viewed 92 times
Summary
An administrator may need to move a host, which is a target for replication, from one cluster under a vCenter instance, to another cluster under the same vCenter instance. While this process is supported, this article outlines some points to bear in mind.
Steps
In order to move a target host from one cluster under a vCenter instance, to another cluster under the same vCenter instance, follow these instructions:
Shutdown the Guest OS of the associated VRA.
Note that at this point, associated VPGs will enter Error state.
Place the target host into Host Maintenance Mode.
Move the target host from Cluster A to Cluster B.
Exit Host Maintenance Mode.
Power on the VRA.
At this point, associated VPGs will enter a short Bitmap Sync, and then enter Protecting state.
If the associated VPGs were configured with a target of a resource pool beneath Cluster A, and cluster B also contains a resource pool, you must edit these VPGs, and change the default and VM specific target host settings to Cluster B, instead of the resource pool beneath Cluster B.
