Initial Sync While Replicating to a vCD Environment

KB Number:
000001013

Symptoms:
An initial sync is performed for a VPG that recovers to vCD after it is edited or recreated by importing the VPG definitions.

Cause:
An initial sync is performed when:
  • Recreating the VPG using the Import VPG Settings, in the Diagnostics utility, or the import-settings cmdlet, from the customer site Zerto Virtual Manager, even when there are preseeded recovery VMDKs.
  • When changing the VPG or recovery site storage profile, even when the original and new storage profiles have the same datastore that currently contains the recovery volumes. The VPG must be deleted and recreated.
  • When importing VPG settings on the customer site, instead of the cloud site, will result in initial sync, as the diagnostics tool will not be able to find the disks on the cloud side.
  • When changing a ZORG Org vDC, even when the original and new vDCs have the same datastore that currently contains the recovery volumes. The VPG must be deleted and recreated. Note that in Zerto version 4.5Ux, changing Org vDC is blocked when editing VPG.

Solution:

Importing the VPG settings
Recreate the VPG from the cloud Zerto Virtual Manager. In this case, the seeded recovery volumes are used and a delta sync is performed.
