How to silence VPG0043 error: The Microsoft default SAN policy

Viewed 426 times

Summary

One of the recovery disks for a protected VM fails to mount on the recovered VM on the DR site. The disk comes up in offline mode and has to be manually brought online. This issue occurs with disks using the PVSCSI driver.  The below error is received, and KB https://www.zerto.com/myzerto/knowledge-base/vpg0043-the-microsoft-default-san-policy-might-cause-vm-vm_name-vpg-vpg_name-volumes-to-become-offline-upon-recovery/ has been previously followed:

VPG0043: Microsoft default SAN policy might cause VM ‘{VM_name}’ (VPG ‘{VPG_name}’) volumes to become offline upon recovery

Steps

Fix (for AWS only as the recovery site):
This issue is resolved in Zerto 8.0.

Please see KB https://www.zerto.com/myzerto/knowledge-base/vpg0043-the-microsoft-default-san-policy-might-cause-vm-vm_name-vpg-vpg_name-volumes-to-become-offline-upon-recovery/ for important notes regarding this fix.

Workaround (for all other hypervisors and versions):
This KB should only be followed after confirming that KB https://www.zerto.com/myzerto/knowledge-base/vpg0043-the-microsoft-default-san-policy-might-cause-vm-vm_name-vpg-vpg_name-volumes-to-become-offline-upon-recovery/ was followed. If a user wants to silence the alerting follow tweak below.

Please contact Zerto support to consult and assist with applying the tweak if running a version of 7.5, as this will require use of the Tweaks Tool.

The steps below can be used if on a version of 7.0 or earlier:

1. Stop the ZVM service
2. Open the relevant tweaks file in Notepad: C:Program FilesZertoZerto Virtual Replicationtweaks.txt
3. Add the relevant tweak on a new line: t_DisableCrossReplicationMonitor=1
4. Save the file
5. Start the ZVM service

Please keep in mind that – once the tweak is applied - new VM's with certain windows OS are protected with offline drives, you will not receive this alert.
