How to Modify a VPG Configuration XML File to Accommodate for a Host-ID Change

Viewed 78 times

Summary

An administrator may need to update the Host-ID within the VPG Configuration XML file due to the Recovery Host ID changing or a need to import the VPG to a different Recovery Host entirely.

Steps

To find the old Moref of the Recovery Host, simply attempt an import of a VPG with the XML in question. The error dialog will provide the Moref (i.e. host-xxxx). Let's call this 'host-a'.

In order to locate the Moref of the desired host, use the vCenter’s Managed Object Browser as follows:

  1. Navigate to https://<vcenter-IP>/mob.

  2. Login with administrator credentials.

  3. Click the "Content" link under the value for the "content" property.

  4. Click the "group" link under the value for the "rootFolder" property.

  5. Click the relevant "datacenter" link under the value for the "childEntity" property.

  6. Click the relevant "group" link under the value for the "hostFolder" property.

  7. Click the "domain" link for the relevant cluster (or standalone host) under the value for the "childEntity" property.

  8. Check the values for the "host" property - the relevant hosts will be listed along with their Morefs - let’s call the relevant one 'host-b'.

Now that the old and new Morefs are available, proceed as follows:

  1. On the source or target ZVM, navigate to the ZVR directory’s ExportedSettings folder, which contains ZVR VPG configuration XML files: \Program Files\Zerto\Zerto Virtual Replication\ExportedSettings.

  2. Make a copy of one of the files, with a timestamp when the VPGs were configured as desired, and place it on the ZVM’s desktop.

  3. In a text editor, open the XML file on the desktop.

  4. Search the file to locate all instances of “host-a”.

  5. Replace those instances with “host-b”.

  6. Save a copy of the file.

  7. Open the Zerto Diagnostics utility.

  8. Choose “Import Protection Group Settings”.

  9. Browse to locate the edited XML file, and follow the prompts to import it.
