Error: “Parameter BootGroupIdentifier is irrelevant in the current configuration and must be removed” when attempting to remove VMs from a VPG

Viewed 2133 times

Summary

This article explains how to resolve an issues when failing to remove a VM from a VPG, and why it might occur

Root Cause

The VM is configured in a Boot order in the VPG settings.

Symptoms

The following error will be shown when trying to remove the VM from the VPG:

Settings Configuration Error: Protected Site Type = vSphere, Recovery Site Type = Azure, Violations = Parameter BootGroupIdentifier is irrelevant in the current configuration and must be removed.
Location:ProtectionGroupManagementSettings.VMsManagementSettings[0].VMSSettings.BootGroupIdentifier

Solution

You can remove the Boot order group via the delete icon at the right of the group.
You cannot remove the Default group nor a group that contains the virtual machine, so first you will need to drag and drop the VM to the Default group and then delete the other group.

Boot order can be defined in the Zerto User Interface, however, when recovering to Public Cloud defining boot order does not boot the virtual machines in the order specified.
