Error “MSI error code:-2147024891” during ZVR Upgrade

Summary

This article covers a scenario in which a Zerto upgrade may fail with an MSI error code and no further information.

Root Cause

Antimalware/Anti-virus software can sometimes cause upgrade failure. This may also occur during installation as well.

Symptoms

When attempting to upgrade ZVR, the upgrade fails with error "MSI errorcode:-2147024891".



In the installer logs, you will also see a line with this same error:

Attempt to disable Antimalware/Anti-virus software for the duration of the upgrade.
