Viewed 109 times

Summary

An administrator may experience a VRA install failure on a Hyper-V host due to inability to create a folder on the host.

Root Cause

An issue with Microsoft's LUA settings will cause issues when trying to install a VRA on a Hyper-V host and the installation will fail. This Microsoft Technet post explains the issue in further detail.

Symptoms

When trying to install a VRA on a Hyper-V host the installation will fail with the following error:

Failed to create folder:c:\zerto-temp-hostname at host :[Host MorefID, server MorefID]

Solution

To workaround the issue, follow the steps below:

  1. RDP to the Hyper-V host where the VRA installation fails.
  2. Open CMD as an administrator and run the following commands:
    1. reg add HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v EnableLUA /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f
    2. reg add HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v FilterAdministratorToken /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f
  3. Attempt the install of the VRA again.
  4. If the installation was successful, then re-enable LUA by running the following commands:
    1. reg add HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v EnableLUA /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f
    2. reg add HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v FilterAdministratorToken /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f
