Error: “An error has occured during vib ‘SSHKeyAppendVib’ installation” When Installing a VRA

Viewed 169 times

An administrator experiences a VRA installation error regarding SSHKeyAppendVib.

Root Cause

By default, ZVR uses vSphere Installation Bundle (VIB) to interact with the host during a VRA install.

For more information on VIB, please see article 'Using Zerto VIB instead of host root password'.

There are two known causes where VIB usage fails:

  1. Not enough free space on /tmp on the ESXi host where the VRA is being installed.

  2. Datacenter name in vSphere has a space in it and Zerto version is lower than 6.5 Update 4.

When installing a VRA, the following error is seen in the GUI:

An error has occurred during vib 'SSHKeyAppendVib' installation

Follow the below steps to workaround the issue:

  1. Upgrade Zerto to 6.5 Update 4 or higher.
  2. During the VRA install, use host root credentials by checking the 'Use credentials to connect to host' checkbox in the Install Dialog window.
  3. If the issue persists after this, check the host /tmp directory for free space. Remove files as needed to create free space on the host's /tmp directory.
