Active directory failover can be touchy because of USN rollback mode if you don’t have our VSS integrated checkpoints. You could also manually script it. But it’s much easier to just buy the vss version of zerto.

Have you reached out to Zerto support? They can look into why we are masking some of the VM’s. Chances are there is something about them that Zerto doesn’t like.
Reducing the number of checkpoints would most likely not reduce the amount of data in the journal. Zerto replicates at the block level, so the only way that zerto would replicate less is if the same block changed multiple times between checkpoints.
