IT Resolutions for 2015
It is that time of year again, we look forward to the new year and hope to improve on the things that did not go as well as we would have liked in 2014. We want to take this chance to take a look forward with you and decide on some important IT resolutions you will keep to in 2015!
Understand Your Data
Before you can do anything, whether it is setting up a BC/DR plan, or assessing the affect data loss will have on your company, you need to understand the importance of your data. Outline which pieces are mission-critical, what can be recovered easily and how much time it will take to complete the recovery process with your current solution.
Define your Needs
Once you have taken the deep dive into your Data, you are able to set up the needs and targets you want to hit in order to keep your data centers running. Some helpful questions to help you define your needs:
- What RTO and RPO levels are you looking to meet (or do you need to meet if you have industry-set regulations?)
- Does your data require continuous data protection?
- How much bandwidth can you afford to use when replicating?
Test your recovery system often!
There is no predicting nature, human error or even worse human stupidity :). With that in mind, it is important to test your disaster recovery system often to make sure it is performing at the service levels you require should any scary DR stories occur.
Once your have made sure to get the right business continuity and disaster recovery solution in place for your company, relax, enjoy 2015 and think about all the other resolution you won’t keep because they are less important!
