With the help of UserEvidence, we recently surveyed more than 100 Zerto users to learn why they purchased their Zerto solution, what’s their approach to cyber resilience, and what they are looking for in a cyber vault. Here are some of our key findings.

Why our customers purchased Zerto

Zerto combines ransomware resilience, disaster recovery, and multi-cloud mobility into one solution. It solves the challenges faced by business and IT leaders, system admins, and DevOps teams managing virtualized and cloud environments.

Most of our customers purchased Zerto for disaster recovery (90% of respondents) or ransomware recovery (41%). Other use cases include migration (28%), reduction of RPO/RTO (28%), and cloud mobility (12%).

Ransomware resilience: Zerto allows you to detect malicious encryption events then quickly recover in minutes by rolling back to a granular point-in-time just seconds before an attack.

Disaster recovery: Zerto offers foolproof recovery with industry-leading RPOs of seconds and RTOs of minutes to dramatically limit data loss and downtime.

Multicloud mobility: Zerto unlocks the freedom to innovate across clouds and the agility to migrate to, from, and between heterogeneous platforms.

Cyber Resilience Strategies

Today’s organizations know it is a matter of when, not if, they will experience a cyberattack. Cyber resilience is the ability to prepare for, respond to, and recover from a cyberattack once it occurs.

Cyber resilience addresses this issue by looking past prevention to consistently ensure the integrity of your critical data to mitigate risk. This type of resiliency requires a recovery solution that guarantees access to all your data, without gaps or data loss, in the event of an attack so your operation can get back up and running without delays.

Our customers’ cyber resilience strategies include integrated disaster recovery (DR) and cyber recovery (CR) plans (52%), separate non-integrated DR and CR plans (25%), a DR plan but no CR plan (11%), and planned scenario-based tabletop exercises for CR (8%).

Did you know that Zerto can keep your cyber insurance costs down? In fact, 41% of respondents say their ransomware recovery solution reduces cyber insurance premiums. Additionally, having a ransomware recovery solution can also increase coverage payouts.

Methods Used to Recover from Cyberattacks

Survey respondents report that to recover from cyberattacks, they restore from backups (73%), use Zerto replication for DR failover (73%), rely on immutable data copies (47%), or count on their cyber vault solution (13%). This last statistic is interesting to note, since 86% of respondents stated having a cyber vault solution is important or very important relative to other cybersecurity initiatives with their executive leadership team. This leads us to believe many respondents will be implementing a cyber vault solution in the near term. In fact, respondents also shared with us what is important to them in a cyber vault solution.

Cyber Vault Solution Must Haves

Survey respondents are looking for the following features in a cyber vault solution:

  • Fast Recovery (81%)
  • Immutability (61%)
  • Airgap (44%)
  • Security scanning (40%)
  • Proof of recovery per industry regulations (39%)
  • Cloud support (28%)
  • Production-grade hardware (27%)

Other responses included “Decentralized management (no out of band management)” (19%), “Single vendor (no shared responsibility)” (18%), and “Clean room” (15%).
