Zerto on Hyper-V for VMWare Administrators
By Shannon Snowden, Zerto’s Sr. Technical Marketing Architect
If you are a VMWare admin and you or your boss have been thinking about checking out Hyper-V, but don’t want to deal with incompatible hypervisors, Zerto just made Hyper-V for VMWare administrators easy.
Zerto Virtual Replication is currently in beta to support Hyper-V in the near future, in addition to our award-winning support of VMWare, and will support cross-hypervisor replication between the two. Now you can move VMs between completely dissimilar environments of vSphere and Hyper-V.
If you are starting at the very beginning with Hyper-V, Microsoft has a great deal of assets and online training to make the transition easier. They have online jump-start training for administrators experienced in VMWare and other hypervisors, which can be found at http://www.microsoftvirtualacademy.com/training-courses/introduction-to-hyper-v-jump-start.
One of the first things to do to make your life easier is learn the differences in the terminology between Microsoft and the equivalent functionality in VMWare. I found working with Hyper-V pretty easy to learn since I already knew what I wanted to do, I just needed to know what Microsoft calls it. Below is a quick reference.
Once your Hyper-V environment is up and running. Just add ZVR!
If you are an existing customer, you can just pair the Hyper-V site along with your current sites. If you are a completely new to Zerto, see this blog post for an explanation of the architecture.
We encourage you to join the beta program to see for yourself how ZVR for Hyper-V can help you decide what platform makes the most sense for your business.
