Up and to the Right!

September 30, 2021

Zerto’s new capabilities make an even stronger case for the next Gartner Enterprise Backup and Recovery Magic Quadrant.

In part one of the blog, we explored some of the features, capabilities, and benefits of the Zerto cloud data management and protection platform that earned Zerto a first-ever time placement on the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Backup and Recovery. In part two, I am going to cover some of the additional features that were not considered due to timing and show you how Zerto is making a strong case for upward movement next time in this category.

ZERTO BACKUP FOR SAAS POWERED BY KEEPIT

Zerto Backup for SaaS powered by Keepit is an industry-leading cloud backup and recovery solution designed to manage and protect cloud SaaS data covering some of the most widely used SaaS solutions, including Microsoft 365, Dynamics 365, Salesforce, and Google Workspace. Built in the cloud and for the cloud, Zerto Backup for SaaS has been purpose-built for simplicity, powerful scalability, and security by design. No need for any on-premise infrastructure or storage in public cloud, Zerto backup for SaaS includes unlimited retention for all data for a simple and easy way to protect your SaaS Data.

ZERTO FOR KUBERNETES (Z4K)

Z4K is the best-in-class continuous data protection (CDP) solution for your VM’s, now available for Kubernetes environments. With continuous backup and DR included in the use cases, this allows application developers and IT administrators to utilize data-protection-as-code. Simply annotate your Kubernetes deployments and Zerto will automatically protect your persistent data continuously with application consistency across the deployment. If VM’s that potentially live for years require CDP to minimize data loss and downtime, containers that live for sometimes only minutes require CDP to best protect data in an extremely dynamic environment.

INSTANT VM RESTORE

Instantly restore VM’s from seconds ago directly back onto production storage and production compute without any additional steps, allowing for instant VM recovery from any outage, including ransomware. This feature restores faster than a VM Clone and can also power a variety of additional use cases, such as creating exact copies of production environments for testing purposes directly on production hosts and many more.

IMMUTABILITY FOR LTR COPIES

Allowing long term retention (LTR) copies to become immutable in Amazon S3 storage gives an extra peace of mind that if anyone did get the keys to the whole estate that these copies of data cannot be deleted or tampered with. This ensures that you always have a copy of data to restore from- and remember these copies are still stored in their application consistency groups no matter how long ago they were stored.

AUTOMATIC CLOUD TIERING

Ensuring LTR copies are stored in the most cost-effective way, Zerto can automatically tier LTR copies in Amazon S3 and Azure blob. This process is all controlled by Zerto, so no manual intervention is needed. Set the schedule and Zerto will do the hard work for you.

FILE LEVEL RECOVERY FROM LTR

When restoring individual files from LTR copies that could be several years old, these files can be indexed and searched to ensure you are getting the exact copy you want from the exact point in time you need. Again, this can be restored directly back into production VM’s or downloaded inside the browser for ultimate flexibility.

AUTOMATED VM PROTECTION

Utilizing vSphere tags, customers can rest easy knowing that Zerto can automatically protect VM’s into a virtual protection group (VPG), making sure no VM is left behind, and data protection is not only automatic, but also continuous.

So now I have covered some of the extra features that Zerto has implemented since the Gartner Magic Quadrant judging took place. Where do you think we will place next time? Up and to the right is where we think!
